Wayfaring Day 117
October 25, 2025 Saturday Today we drive the two hour drive that turned into three. Traffic was very slow and go and stop and go between stretches of driving near the speed limit. Going into the city was also crazy with the Dio de las Muertos festivities, conventions and of course the Paul McCartney concert. We made it to the hotel and were checked in fairly quickly. It was somewhat chaotic around the hotel but that is as expected. We have a 5th floor room with a balcony ov

Wayfaring Day 116
October 24, 2025 Friday This morning we packed for our weekend meander and did some things at David’s mom’s. In addition to family we also have paid help with David’s mom over the next four days. David and his youngest brother will be out of town leaving only his middle brother in town to help with their mother. We left town around 11:00 for Amy’s brother’s house. With stops and some really slow traffic near their house we arrived at about 4:00. We met Amy’s other brothe

Wayfaring Day 115
October 23, 2025 The first half of the day was used for David’s exercise and Amy’s sewing. The afternoon is set aside for bringing David’s mother home after her rehab assignment. We picked up David’s mom at 4:00. We got her settled back into the house. Amy had picked up some things to have for dinner. David grilled chicken breasts and made salads while Amy prepared mixed vegetables and some bread. When David’s brother arrived we were ready to start eating dinner. We sat arou

Wayfaring Day 114
October 22, 2025 Wednesday Today Amy was up early for her substitute job. David has several things to do but for the most part he has to work on getting things set up for his mom to return to her house after her rehab assignment. There are other family issues to deal with as there seem to always be major shifts and sometimes unexpected surprises in our extended family. While we are at home base our pics have local photos taken at parks or homes of family we have here. Today

Wayfaring Day 113
October 21, 2025 Tuesday Today was an errand running and exercising day. It was also a day for visiting family. We visited all of our parents for all of the afternoon. We did a bit of grocery shopping just to fill in some gaps in some of our needs for the week. In the evening we grilled steaks and had salad and green beans to go with. David did his bleacher workout while Amy took care of some things at home. Amy has a substitute teaching gig tomorrow so she has to be up

Wayfaring Day 112
October 20, 2025 Monday Today we had to pick up mail and prescriptions. After that we needed to take care of whether or not David’s mom was going to be discharged and come home. We met with all the necessary people and decided she should go home on Thursday. It appears to be the best decision. The later afternoon was spent doing laundry and organizing. One of those catch up days we have to have from time to time. We plan to hang out at home base for most of the week an

Wayfaring Day 111
October 19, 2025 Sunday Today was a day for getting some things done around my son's house. Their subdivision is having a garage sale weekend next weekend so we helped prepare for that. We moved furniture to the garage and reshuffled things in the garage in order to make space and sort out things for the sale. David and our son also installed ceiling fans in two of the bedrooms. We had sausages and hot dogs with chips, queso, guacamole and salsa for lunch. Our grandson ha

Wayfaring Day 110
October 18, 2025 Saturday The temp this morning was up to 80 before lunch time but rain was on the way. Our grandson had a birthday party to attend so he and his parents were off this morning to the party. For us it was an uneventful but enjoyable morning. The rain started right at noon and it came down heavy for a little while. Our party crew made it back home around 1:30. We played some improvised soccer for a while and then switched to airplanes. Later in the evening we

Wayfaring Day 109
October 17, 2025 Friday Our grandson woke us up around 7:30 but after he went to pre-school we slept some more. We were both up and ready by around noon which meant only an hour and half until we had to go pick him up. We stayed and played at the church playground until about three. A short stop for a few items at Albertsons was made on the way back to the house. We did a lot of playing with the characters of Sonic the Hedgehog, airplanes and dinosaurs before dinner. We

Wayfaring Day 108
October 16, 2025 Thursday Today is Amy’s birthday. It is also our day for flying home. We have an early evening flight which means an early morning arrival. Our hosts arrived last night around 10:00. This morning with our hosts back home we still did some things with the dogs and then we later said our goodbyes. I doubt the dogs will miss us now that they have their mom and dad home. As Mary Poppins said, “That’s as it should be.” We played ball with dogs and said our

Wayfaring Day 107
October 15, 2025 Wednesday Our final full day in Washington. Tomorrow we fly home. This morning there was a frost with temperatures around 33 degrees. David was up early to do one last bit of hiking before our stay ends. It was cold and foggy on the drive to Lord Hill Regional Park. At the beginning of the hike David was feeling the cold but after a while that faded. He spent about two hours hiking some of the many trails in this large lush park. This was a longer hik

Wayfaring Day 106
October 14, 2025 Tuesday An absolutely beautiful day with blue skies and highs in the low 60s. We took it easy this morning, having a little breakfast and enjoying our dogs. Around 1:00 we took a 30 minute drive to visit Granite Falls. We parked and walked down to the falls. It is a short hike to the falls down a few flights of stairs. The water falls over massive levels of gray granite in a steep granite gorge. It’s no surprise that there is a large granite mine just acr

Wayfaring Day 105
October 13, 2025 Monday Another beautiful clear day affords us an opportunity to explore in a new direction. Today we have chosen the Leavenworth direction. The morning was as usual with the dogs and as usual not started very early. By about 11:00 we had readied ourselves for a road trip toward Leavenworth. We decided that if we didn’t make it all the way to Leavenworth we would be fine with that since we were just there a year ago. This was a beautiful drive through the m
