February 28, 2026 Saturday

This morning we got up and had breakfast with plans of going to the zoo. Our younger son had spent the night in a hotel and made it to our older son’s house around 9:00. By 10:00 we had everything packed up and were headed to the zoo with our grandson. There are two major zoos within the metro area. One is about 30 min away and the other close to an hour. We opted for the farther one since we had not been there in quite a long time.

The zoo was crowded with it being a beautiful Saturday with the temperature above 80. A pretty spectacular day for the final day of February. We had to park far away from the main entrance as we were one of the many people who had the same idea for today. Once inside it didn’t seem too crowded. There were some crowded areas and lines for food and drinks were longer than we would have liked. We believe we saw every animal in every exhibit that was not closed for some reason. Some of the highlights were the young lions, the running rhino and the playful sibling black bears. After about four and a half hours we had pretty much seen it all and were beginning to get tired. Our grandson was tired and ready to go and fell asleep on the car ride back home.

Our younger son headed home around 6:00 and we had pizza delivered for us and our grandson. We ate and played for a little while. We also worked on building a book shelf and a cube storage unit. There are still many things to do before the twins arrive. For that reason we decided to stay over another night to see what else we can do.

Our son got home from his road trip around 9:00 and sat and talked with us for awhile. It was the final road trip and final two games of the year. They had lost Thursday but had finished with a win this afternoon. He was tired and went to bed around 10:30. David stayed up later than everyone else but eventually found his way to bed.
