October 6, 2025 Monday

For the first few days of our stay the weather is supposed to be sunny and warm. For us that means pleasantly cool. Feeling like we had to take advantage of our good fortune we decided we would drive up to North Cascades National Park for a quick look and to scratch it off the list of national parks we have visited. We wouldn’t be there for long because we didn’t want to leave the dogs kenneled for too long.

We took care of the dogs for the morning and eventually had them in their outdoor kennel. We drove directly to the park by way of the North Cascades Highway. The visitor center was closed for the winter as were most of the campgrounds, picnic areas and restrooms. The Skagit Information Center , store and restrooms were open so we stopped there for a little while. Our goal was to get as far as Diablo Lake before turning back to the house. We stopped at the Gorge Overlook Trail and then at Diablo Lake Overlook. We looked around and took pics before heading back. We drove back down out of the mountains and reached the house a little later than we had hoped.

We let the dogs out and made sure they had more water. We played in the yard with the dogs for a few minutes and then let them spend more time outside while it was still daylight. We played with the TV some and our phones. David grilled a steak and we had bread and vegetables to go with the steak.

Around dark we let the dogs in and we all relaxed for the rest of the evening. After last break and putting the dogs to bed we stayed up a little while and went to bed about midnight. Overall a nice day in the northwest.
