Beginning this post with a couple of travel details.
We have been getting messages from Aer Lingus about bidding on moving up to business class. The minimum is $600 per seat so that’s a hard pass for us poor folk. We have our excursion to Northern Ireland paid for so hopefully the weather will cooperate. We have two more days to do some things in and around Huddersfield. This afternoon there is supposed to be 3-4 inches of snow so that’s may limit our options.

Today we have our tickets for Fawlty Towers which is showing in Leeds at the Grand Theatre and Opera House. We caught a bus to take us downtown to the bus station at around 11:20. we walked over to the train station and caught the Perinines Express for Leeds. Our tickets were “Anytime” tickets so we caught the 12:01 train not long after arriving at the station. We were able to see some the towns and countryside along the way since there was daylight. The trip is just over 20 minutes.

Leeds has a large and busy train station. Even so it was easy to navigate. We found a pizza place that was rated 4.9 stars and set our navigation for there. It was about a 10 minute walk past a few interesting buildings downtown. The pizza restaurant was located just across the street from a modern shopping mall which thought we would go through on the way to the show. The pizza place was called Pizza Pilgrims and was quite good and a little different which is what are usually looking for when we travel. From there we walked thru the mall and then over to Briggate to walk up toward the theatre. We had plenty of time to stroll up Briggate and even stopped in a couple of shops.

We reached the theatre at 2:00 which is perfect for a 2:30 show. The theatre is an old intimate and ornate theatre. Our sweats were on row two of the Upper Circle. Like many old theatres the seats were pretty small with a minimal amount of leg and knee space. We had a great view from our seats which is easy to accomplish in such a small theatre. The show, Fawlty Towers, was very well done and we were able to follow the dialogue for the most part. We probably missed a couple of British jokes or jokes that real fans of the original show would have caught. In any case it was a fun show and we really enjoyed the theatre.

We took our time walking back to the train station in the dark. We stopped in the public library which was a real unexpected treat. The interior is an amazing work of art with amazing intricate tile work, sculptures and glass. They were closing but a friendly worker allowed us to go into the foyer and then into the stairwells impressed to see this five story building. We were there about 15 minutes and then they started closing. When we exited the library we were at the Leeds Town Hall which is an large impressive building. They are doing a major restoration and updating of the building.

From there we walked to the train station which was bustling with activity at 5:00pm. We found a train for Huddersfield that was leaving at 5:15 so we headed to track 13a to board the train. We made it with a few minutes to spare but the train was packed. We were unable to sit together but we found seats not far apart. Huddersfield was the second stop nd we were in Huddersfield in about 23 minutes.
There was a bus leaving in about 10 minutes so we hurried over to the bus station and cash the bus back to the street that is downhill from the house once back Amy cooked some fried rice with beef for dinner. It was some nice warm food on a very cold evening. Next came the starting of the fire which makes the living room nice and warm. We feel we are using up our host’s firewood. David may have to help refill the woodpile.

After dinner David decided to walk to the store for a few things. It had not started snowing yet but as soon as he left the house it started. By the time he left the store it was snowing in earnest. The pavement was covered and the footing was a bit slippery on the way back. He made it with no issues and was happy to be back in front of the fire. Amy made cookies which we enjoyed while watching tv. We watched tv while the snow continued late into the evening. This snow will be much more of an event than the previous snows we have seen here.
