This morning we headed across the Rhine into the wine country of France. It was odd that we just drove across a bridge and we were in another country much the same as crossing a state line in the U.S.. Driving through miles of grape vines was like driving through miles of corn fields back home. Even though we made it to Riquewihr reasonably early finding a parking place was challenging. After circling the old city walls a couple of times we finally found a place and entered this amazing 16th century town. We understand that this is the town Disney sent animators when they were working on Beauty and the Beast. This is still a working and living town where people work and live while maintaining the historical value of this medieval walled village. We spent several hours here taking pics, shopping and having some lunch. This was an experience we were so glad to have had and we are so appreciative to our friend for exposing us to this area of France.

David most enjoyed the artist Christian Schwob and his art shop. He so wanted to buy one of his etchings. The artist even took time to show us how the process of an etching works which was fun and interesting. Amy favored the Christmas store that was amazing and fun to walk through. She did make a purchase here. We had a meal at Creperie du Vieux Pressoir where we had Quiche Lorraine and Riquewihrienne both of which were very good. Our friend thinks this is best Quiche Lorraine he has found after living in Germany for over 20 years and we believe him.

We had a leisurely drive back to Kandern that included driving through the countryside near the Black Forest. Later that evening we walked to an Indian Restaurant where we had some very tasty Indian dishes. After our leisurely stroll back to the house we spent the evening talking and catching up and eventually turned in.
