Our last full day with the team and last full day in Munich is committed to making the drive out to Neuschwanstein Castle with a stop of the way back at the small town of Oberammergau. There are more interesting and truly medieval castles throughout Europe but for those outside of Europe we see Neuschwantstein Castle as the most iconic castle in Germany. Naturally we had to put it on the itinerary. And though it is not from medieval times it was designed to be a medieval structure at the direction of King Ludwig II in the 20th century. The entire group enjoyed the visit to the area and the guided tour through the completed sections of the castle as it was never completed. The castle and the surrounding area is very picturesque. This fact is lost on no one who visits and we have the pictures to prove it. After several hours at the castle and enjoying the surrounding natural beauty we headed on to Oberammergau in a steady rain. The rain continued while we were in town but we found a nice restaurant to have lunch and then did some shopping in some of the quaint stores. Everyone found their way to the bus and we made our way back to Munich.

Tonight we had our farewell dinner and afterward several of us stopped in the Hofbrauhaus for our final Munich experience. We returned to the hotel and packed for the next day. The team and most of all the others on our tour will fly back in the morning. We will be up and out of the hotel earlier than everyone else since we have to catch a train to the Black Forest area of Germany where we will meet up with our friend. Hopefully everything will go smoothly as this is the first time we have had to travel on our own since we left the U.S..
This ends our guided tour and our great tour guide and driver who were with us each day of the tour. We will probably be taking things a bit more leisurely now but we will also miss out on some of the knowledge that a guide provides during our travels.
