Today we drove over to another one of the estates that are part of the UK’s National Trust. This time we drove a little over 40 minutes to The Nostell House. The choice to go here was due to the fact that they still have their Christmas tours of the house. We drove the freeways for most of the trip which we felt was safer. We only hit one curb and had to go all the way around only one roundabout. The Nostell mansion is massive but not overly opulant. It was somewhat similar to Dunham Massey. The nice thing this time was that we were able to tour the house. Most of the rooms were decorated for Christmas and we enjoyed learning about the home and the family who lived here for about 300 years before turning it over to the National Trust. We walked some of the grounds near the house and then decided to make our way back to the car.

We mapped out return using Google Maps which works exactly the same as it does in the states. There were several narrow roads and tight spaces before we reached the freeway but all went well. The home we are staying in is not far off the freeway so the driving on the narrow streets in Huddersfield is minimal.

Since sundown here is 3:58 we had made our plan to get back before dark and we did so with time to spare. We had thought we might drive to a restaurant on the way in but most of the ones we were interested in did not open until 5:00. We decided we would walk to a restaurant in Lindley at about 4:45 so that we would be at there when they opened. The Italian place, as it turned out, was not open today at all. So we opted for a more English restaurant where we had three small plates and an order of Cajun onion rings. Our small plates were pigs in a blanket, burnt end pork belly and rump steak. Being very familiar with Cajun cuisine we were not sure what made the onion rings Cajun but they were very tasty nonetheless.
After our early dinner we stopped by the grocery store and picked up a few items for doing some cooking. We then walked back to the house where we spent the evening watching television and lounging with our new friends.
