Our first full day at Amy’s sister’s house began with some of the family going to church while others stayed home. Someone has to stay home with our niece so we took that assignment so that other family can go visit with their friends for a while. When everyone was home after church and lunch, the rest of us went to a local restaurant for lunch.
After lunch the process of getting things ready for tomorrow’s family get together started in earnest. There were multiple grocery store runs and the usual preparations for the dressing, turkey and other holiday foods. These Christmas get togethers usually have dishes that are mostly the same as Thanksgiving. For some reason we have ham at Christmas but not usually at Thanksgiving. In any case it will be a huge meal full of carbs and rich foods.
In the afternoon one of our grandson’s cousins came over and spent several hours playing. Our grandson is a little older than he is but they are close enough in age to be good playmates. With all the food preparation going on we just had cold sandwiches and chips and dips for our dinner meal. There are now 16 of us in town for our family Christmas on Amy’s side of the family. Three more will join us tomorrow so that the only one missing is our niece who is teaching in China and can only be home periodically.
David is having a minimal pain day which is nice. And having our grandson with us is nice. He misses his mom and dad but is ok since he knows they are going to be here tomorrow. We will be spending tomorrow at our nephew’s house which is in the country with lots of space. There is a huge loft for the kids with a thousand toys so the four boys will be playing there much of the time. Of course the seventh grader has mostly outgrown the other three but he still interacts with them at times.

Today we picked up another house/dog sitting gig. This one is near our older son’s house and will take care of of us for May 10-30. We interviewed for this a while back but just got the invite and accepted today.
