November 29, 2025 Saturday
David was up (not early) putting out fires: replacing a headlight, picking up mail, mailing a package, paying for the PO Box. Our younger son had a basketball game so we left at about 11:30 to get to his 12:30 game. The game was a good one with his team winning by 11. After the game we had lunch at Torchy’s since our home base city doesn’t have one and David had a free chips and queso for his birthday. We made a stop at the Home store just to get some Christmas spirit and then drove back home.
At home we talked to David’s brother before he went to work and just kicked back for a little while. At around 6:00 we ventured over to the nursing center to see David’s mom and dad. They were in their own rooms when we arrived. David visited with his dad while Amy visited with his mother. David and his dad talked and kept up with our older son’s basketball game. They were both sad to see them lose at the very end with only one second remaining. We left them around 7:15 and went straight home. We had an uneventful evening and turned in before midnight.

WAYFARING THOUGHTS
With the world changing in March or early April we have been looking at options for accommodations around where our grandson lives. We are considering several ideas:
Long term Vrbo
Long term extended stay hotels
Dog/house sitting
The Vrbo option is a little more expensive and would mean staying somewhere a little further from their house. There are also a lot of unknowns with Vrbo homes which are also coupled with paying up front and possibly losing money if things don’t work out
The dog sitting option is more a piecemeal plan where we might not have a plan until closer to the date. Plus we would have the added planning making sure the animals are taken care of correctly. This is the cheapest option.
The extended stay has some upside due to long range planning and lower risk. It would also be cheaper than Vrbo and with less unexpected issues. The location would be better than the others since there are options near our son’s house.
We are looking at a 24 day stay from April into May.
Vrbo would be around $2000-$2500
Extended stay hotel around $1600-$2000
Dog sitting- no costs but juggling pet care with helping with twins possibly at all hours.
More research is needed but the extended stay is almost like living in an apartment and limits our risk.
The plan may be to reserve the extended stay and then keep looking for dog sitting opportunities.
