November 27, Thursday

Thanksgiving Day is upon us.

Today was a traditional style Thanksgiving. After some of us were up we watched the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade on NBC from start to finish. We don’t all watch intently but it is on until the dog show comes on. We usually watch a few minutes of that before changing channels to something kid friendly. All of the adults took turns playing with our grandson who was high energy all day. Our son was in bed over half the day but did make a few appearances when he felt up to it. Our wonderful daughter-in-law did all the cooking and had everything ready by about 12:30. She made mac and cheese, a rice dish, potatoes with gravy and a couple of different kinds of rolls to go along with our smoked turkey breast. Afterward she had pumpkin pie and a chocolate pie for desert.

After lunch we continued our tag team playing with our grandson. The three of us (Amy, David and our younger son) played all sorts of things with him throughout the day so that our son who is sick and his wife who is approaching the half way point in her pregnancy with twins could both rest as much as possible. We watched football much of the afternoon while the other tv was usually tuned to kids shows when it was turned on. We all built all kinds of things with Lego blocks and magnetiles and also took some time for Hot Wheels and dinosaurs. It was a nice day today so we also spent some time outside hitting baseballs.

In the evening we had the traditional left overs meal. After we had eaten, our younger son headed home since he had basketball practice tomorrow and then a game on Saturday. As with any night it was eventually jammy time and then shortly after it was time for our grandson to go to bed. He seemed ready to go to bed tonight seemingly tired from a whole day of playing.

Tomorrow we are planning to finally make it back to home base. It will have been almost an entire month. Of course there are no guarantees considering how tenuous our circumstances are at present.
