Today is our first day in SLC and our first basketball game. David got up and made breakfast and then a little later walked to the gym to see our son and to watch shoot around. After shoot around he walked back to our condo where we washed some clothes and had a little snack.

At about 2:00 we climbed into our rental car and drove across Salt Lake to the Great Salt Lake State Park and visitor center. The Great Salt Lake is one of those wonders of the world things. We have heard about it our entire lives but had never made it to its sunny shores. We expected a somewhat stark landscape and we were not disappointed. However, we were somewhat amazed at the reeds and other plants around the lake. We spent about 30 minutes in the very small visitors center learning about the history of the lake. The most interesting thing may be the entertainment developments that were built on the lake in the 1800s for tourism. Oddly almost none of the structures remain due to fires and rising water levels in the 1980s. Water levels now are very low. The pumps that were built to remove water from the lake to control lake levels haven’t been used for over 25 years. It was an Interesting and educational experience and we were pleased that we chose this little excursion for today.

We crossed the city again to our Sugar Hill Vrbo about two hours before game time. We started another load of clothes and snacked a little, but mostly just rested. At 5:15 we walked over to the gym arriving about 25 minutes until game time. Our sons team lost their game to Westminster by 13 points. We played well at times but they were just better than us today. We play them again tomorrow so maybe we can achieve a better result. After the game we visited with our son, some of the players and some of the parents who made the trip to Salt Lake City. Our stroll back to the condo through the campus was pleasant enough. We walked into our condo at about 8:30 and started discussing dinner. David decided to walk to the Chic-fil-a and pick up a little food. We had our chicken nuggets and then spent sometime on the phone talking to our other son and some friends and family.
Tomorrow we hope to do a drive in the mountains for about 4 hours. Then at 6:00 we will go to the other game. Sunday we will have free to do whatever else we find to do.
