October 10, 2025 Friday
The morning began in the usual way. We had breakfast burritos and worked out our energetic doggies. We piddled around for most of the morning until around 11:00. Our idea for today was to drive over to La Conner for lunch and some exploring. We took care of our K-9s and left for La Conner.

The drive was about an hour from the house to La Conner and much of it was through farmland. There were large fields of gourds and pumpkins but were mostly harvested. We were only on Interstate 5 for about 20 miles before heading west through the farming area.

We came into La Conner on one of the two main roads and drove down to 1st Street which parallels the Swinomish Channel. We walked along 1st passing shops and eateries as we researched a place to eat. The La Conner Pub and Eatery was our choice for today. They claim to have the best fish and chips so how could we go wrong. David had the fish and chips and they were the best he had ever had in La Conner. They were very good. Amy had popcorn shrimp and onion rings and enjoyed her meal as well.

We walked along the street and went into most of the shops if only for a few minutes. We spent at least 20 minutes in one of the artists studios talking to the artist and admiring his art. From there we walked back up the other side of the street. Light rain began to fall while the sun shone to the south and while dark clouds and a double rainbow appeared to the north. We did buy a couple of things before we left. Amy bought a sweater that was on sale for 50% off. Our only other purchase was some chocolate covered peanut clusters and some chocolate covered peanut brittle.

We drove back a different way avoiding the interstate completely. It was about 15 minutes slower to go this way but much more scenic. We grilled steak and had mixed vegetables as the only side. The dogs came in for the evening and mostly slept. Hopefully they will sleep some tonight as well. Heavier rain is in the forecast for the next two days. We are just going to play it by ear.
