Malaga

We followed the same morning game plan but this time we took a taxi to town and more precisely the Picasso Museum. We used the Freenow app to get a ride but it was going to take longer than we wanted to wait. There were numerous taxis at the terminal. However, on the app the price simply showed starting at 5,50€ but the cab ride by taking one that was already there cost us 20€. Not sure that was a good plan. The bus would have been more than that and the line was long.

In Malaga we decided to just do the walk on our own. We had our Picasso Museum at 1:00 so we did that first. We spent a couple of hours learning about Picasso and viewing many of his works as well as works by other artists who work in the Picasso style.

After the museum we walked around the bascilica and took pics but did not decide to go in. We had some snacks in front of the bascilica and then walked to the Alcazaba. We stopped at the Roman Theater first and then walked up to the Alcazaba entrance. We did pay the fee to go through this large ancient fortress. We only paid for the fortress and not for the castle on top of the hill. The cost was only 6€ total.

We highly recommend the Alcazaba. Their audio tour is easy to use and well done. Walking through the grounds is a treat for anyone wanting a taste of the history of Malaga which is a very old city. The walking is up hill and once you reach the top you retrace the paths back to the beginning. The views of the city and surrounding area were plenty good enough for us so we did not feel bad about going up to the castle.

From the Alcazaba we walked back into the city and had some really delicious pizza at a restaurant on one of the narrow streets. After eating we walked through the Parque de Malaga which is a huge park along the harbor.

Since we didn’t have return transportation we decided to walk back to the ship. It was about a 40 minute walk and we were back on board with 13 minutes to spare. Once on board we listened to one of the solo performers before going up on deck to watch the city lights of Malay drift away. After that we found a little bit of desert and then headed to the room.

We had to do some laundry so we used the ship laundry to do a load of clothes. We split the load between two dryers to help things dry better. Only a few items were a little damp after drying but we just hung them up in our room to dry. Doing our own laundry cost $10.50. After doing laundry for nearly two hours it was late and time to go to bed. The ship will be in Gibraltar early tomorrow.
