Amy and David got up early and drove to our son´s house. We were able to have some fun with our grandson until after lunch. We are feeling a little sad that we will not see him again for two weeks. We all loaded up in their car and drove to the university. We were early since our son needed to be there to get things organized and make ready for everyone to gather there for the bus ride to the airport. We said our good-byes to our grandson and our daughter-in-law before they headed back home. We found a place to sit and rest while we waited on all our fellow travelers. Everyone arrived on time and we had the bus loaded and were on our way to the international terminal without having to rush.
We unloaded and everyone made it through security without any big issues. Everyone found food and drinks and relaxed in the terminal while we waited on our Lufthansa flight to board. We boarded and our departure was close to being on time. This was an overnight flight to Frankfurt, Germany with a connecting flight to Prague in the morning. We watched movies, had our evening meal and tried to sleep during the portion of the flight that was in the dark. We did not get much sleep since the time changes force you to try to go to sleep far earlier than normal. Once morning arrived the flight attendants began serving breakfast and soon thereafter we were preparing for landing in Germany. We landed, deplaned and then began to navigate this huge foreign airport. We made our way through all the customs checkpoints and began our long walk to our connection gate which was quite far away. We used several very long moving walkways and then followed signs to our gate. The group did not stay together through the process of making our connection but eventually everyone reconvened at the gate for our next flight. The airport was actually easy to navigate and the employees there were friendly and helpful so that the language difference was not much of an issue for any of us. David did study German some over the past nine months and had at least a little understanding of the language. He is definitely not conversational but he can understand some words and phrases and can speak some key phrases.
Since we are now into Day 45 we will continue in the next post.
