August 8, 2025 Friday

With Amy at home base and both cars there as well, David rode Amtrak to home base as he had done a couple of times in the past. He spent the morning with our grandson and the family. The train was scheduled for the afternoon and was only running about 30 minutes behind which is a usual condition. This was a fun day for David, our son and of course our grandson because he loves trains. We made it to the downtown station and with the train running even later than before we did some walking around and looking at trains. All trains serving the city have stops at Union Station. We were able to watch light rail trains, commuter double deck trains, freight trains, the street car and of course Amtrak. Our grandson does not like loud noises so we had to keep a little distance from some of the louder diesel locomotives. Amtrak finally arrived and Pops got on board for the two and a half hour trip. The train is notoriously behind schedule but still a pleasant ride with only one stop between boarding and arrival at the destination. The train was a little late arriving but David´s brother picked him up at the train station right on time. We do enjoy riding the train from time to time but with only one train each way each day it isn´t always convenient. It is, however, reasonable in price, usually between $15 and $22 for one way.

Amy spent the day with her sewing workshop but was back at the house by about the same time as David. David typically unpacks and does laundry as soon as he gets home so that process absorbed the balance of the evening.
