August 7, 2025 Thursday

David is keeping our grandson while Amy is doing her sewing workshop. The big deal for today is our zoom meeting for what will hopefully be our initial sitting with THS.

When the time came for the zoom meeting we all logged in and as usual everyone had to navigate the video and sound so that everyone could see and hear everyone else. We had our introductions which included the two dogs and then discussed a few details of the sit. The dogs, by the way, were very well behaved, smart and cute. We all decided that if we were going to do the sit we would arrive the day before and spend a night near the Everett airport and then take a rideshare to the hosts home. It is about a 30 minute ride from the airport to the hosts home. We would spend a night with the hosts in order to familiarize ourselves with the home and the doggies. The next day they would fly out to their destination. We would also have use of their car which is a huge bonus for this sit. At the end of the sit the hosts will arrive late on our last night. The following day they would drive us to the ariport for our departure. After some discussion they decided that we seemed a good fit and they offered us the sit. We were happy to accept the sit and excited for the adventure of making new friends both human and canine. We are looking forward to hanging out with the dogs and maybe taking a few short trips to some of the local sights.

When it comes to meeting new people this way I suppose there is a bit of apprehension but as in this situation I think people tend to look for people who have some common life experiences. In this particular case there are some commonalities involving our backgrounds in education as well as our age and station in life. But, it all begins with a shared belief that a provider like THS can create connections between people of different backgrounds and cultures.

We immediately began looking for flights and hotels. We used Frontier for the flights and our one night in Everett will be at a hotel near the airport. The Hilton Garden Inn advertised a free shuttle and since we use our Hilton Honors for a majority of our hotel reservations it made sense to stay there. We made the reservation using some of our OneKeyCash making the total for the stay $75.80. The airfare on Frontier was purchased with a combination of points and cash. For both us round trip the total was $190.56. So our costs so far for this adventure is at $266.36. Every trip doesn´t work out like this of course but at least for this one we may be able to keep our costs under $100 per day for the entire 13 days. I will determine the totals once the trip is concluded.
