July 10, 2025 Thursday

Amy is playing with our grandson today again while David is taking care of things back at home base. Today however is somewhat of a big day in that a decision is made in regard to airlines and credit cards.

We have several accounts that we use to earn points and to give us some perks for travel. The ones we have credit cards or rewards with include American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines, Delta Airlines, Lufthansa, Princess, Hilton, Holiday Inn, Disney and One Key(the Expedia/Vrbo/Booking.com triad). Today, however; David is following through on some research into Frontier Airlines and their credit card and other programs. As with many of our decisions of late we decided to just do it and embrace the idea as fully as we think will work for us. Frontier has branded itself as a discount airline akin to airlines like Spirit. That means paying extra for things like bags and seats. We decided to join Discount Den so that we can get the lower fares on almost all flights. Discount Den is only needed for one person since they allow you and up to 8 people to fly at the Discount Den fare. There is also a ¨kids fly free¨ aspect of Discount Den which applies to some flights. I should make an important note here: The lowest Discount Den fares are on the best non-stop flights and not on the longer connecting flights as some might imagine. I was able to put together round trip flights for 3 adults and 1 child to Orlando for a total price of $120.00! We also opted to take the credit card offer that awarded 50,000 miles after spending $2500 within a prescribed time period. The credit card also allows the holder two checked bags which is a big deal when it comes to saving money on each flight. The offer also includes a $100 flight voucher on the anniversary for your card. There is a yearly fee and the Discount Den costs $99 for the first year. You have to be prepared to take advantage of the Discount Den fares in order to get your moneys worth out of it. They also offer other last minute fares that are pretty incredible. In playing with the Frontier app we were finding fares of only $19 to $40 one way to several cities from our primary airport. Are we going to be crafty enough to make the Frontier experiment work for us? We are going to find out. We will keep readers posted as we navigate our travel arrangements.

Frontier also offers Go Wild Passes that allow you to fly as much as you want. We are not sure if this would work for us. You should look at the details on the Frontier site if you have an interest in this offer.

Please understand we have no connection with Frontier Airlines or any of their companies or partners. Our information is not an endorsement for any company but merely our experience and ongoing experiments with travel companies and their offers. Our experience is that every traveler has to do their own research and make decisions that fit their lifestyle and travel goals. As of today we have never taken a flight on Frontier but we have talked to others we have done so. I feel sure we will use a variety of airlines and other travel companies as we plan our year. As of now we have flights booked on United, Lufthansa and Southwest so we shop around for the best deals when we fly.
